Geographical location

Saxler is located in the Vulkaneifel nature park between Ellscheid in the northeast, Gillenfeld in the south-southeast and Udler in the west; the main town of the same name is located at around 403 to 422  m above sea level. NHN . The Mariahof, Michelshof, Saxlermühle, Waldhof and Weierhof residential areas also belong to the local community . The Alf tributary Mürmesbach (Mürmesgraben) flows northwest past Saxler in the transition area to Waldhof .

history

During drainage work a Roman settlement was found in 1991 north-northwest of Saxler in the area of ​​a southern slope . Many ceramic shards from the 2nd to 4th centuries were also found there.

Saxler belonged to the Daun office of the Electorate of Trier until the end of the 18th century , and after the conquest by the French from 1798 to 1814 it belonged to the canton of Daun in the Prüm district in the Sarre department . As a result of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the Daun district in the administrative district of Trier and from 1822 to the Rhine province . The population was 95 in 1910, 117 in 1939 and has been declining since then.
