Basberg is a municipality in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Gerolstein community .
Geographical location
The place is in the Vulkaneifel nature park at the foot of the Katzenberg ( natural monument ) south of Lissendorf .
history
In 1262, the first recorded mention of a knight of Theodoric Bansberg, who was in the count's services and with a Hofgut at the foot of the mountain cat is invested was.
During the late Middle Ages, Basberg belonged to the family of counts from Manderscheid-Blankenheim . In 1491, the then landlord, Count Johann von Manderscheid-Blankenheim, gave goods and property in Basberg as a fief to Wilhelm von Daun . Among other things, the Prüm Abbey owned an estate in this Eifel town. When Basberg came under Prussian administration in the 19th century , the place belonged to the mayor's office of Lissendorf .
On November 7, 1970, the hamlet of Lehnerath with the courtyards Kirchenhof, Lindenhof and Petershof with a total of 55 residents was reunited from Basberg to Steffeln .
