history
The place was in 1121 first mentioned as Count Theodoric of Ahr the monastery Steinfeld at the Cologne Archbishop Frederick I ceded. The possessions of the monastery, half of the village "Berendorp" with the parish church and the whole tithe , were confirmed by Pope Innocent II (1130–1143) and in 1087 by Cologne Archbishop Philipp I von Heinsberg . According to the Liber valoris , the parish "Berindorp" belonged to the Cologne Eifel deanate.
Since 1352 Berndorf ("Berendorf") belonged to the electorate of Trier and to the Electorate of Trier Hillesheim . After a “sworn clientele” of two bailiffs at Hillesheim in 1379, the Margraves of Jülich also exercised their rights in “Berendorf”.
In connection with the French Revolution , the region came under French administration in 1794 and from 1798 on belonged to the canton of Daun in the Saar department .
After the Rhineland came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 due to the treaties of the Congress of Vienna , Berndorf belonged to the Kerpen mayor in the Daun district , which was newly created in 1816 , to the Prussian Rhine Province from June 22, 1822 and to the German Empire from 1871 to 1918 .
In the course of the municipal reorganization of Rhineland-Palatinate, the place came to the Verbandsgemeinde Hillesheim in 1968 and to the Verbandsgemeinde Gerolstein in 2019 .
