history
The Verbandsgemeinde Hillesheim emerged as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform that was carried out in the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s from the Hillesheim Office, which had existed since 1927 . As of October 1, 1968, all 132 offices in the administrative districts of Koblenz and Trier , including the Hillesheim office, were converted into association municipalities due to the “State Law for the Amendment of Municipal Constitutional Regulations and for Preparing the Reorganization of Municipalities” of July 16, 1968 .
In 1968, the local communities of Berndorf, Bolsdorf, Dohm-Lammersdorf, Hillesheim, Kerpen, Loogh, Niederbettingen, Oberehe, Stroheich, Üxheim, Walsdorf and Zilsdorf belonged to the Verbandsgemeinde Hillesheim.
In a further step of the territorial reform, the "eighth state law on administrative simplification in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate" of July 28, 1970, the association communities in the Daun district were newly formed with effect from November 7, 1970. The following municipalities were assigned to the new collective municipality Hillesheim:
- from the previous collective municipality Hillesheim the municipalities Berndorf, Bolsdorf, Dohm-Lammersdorf, Hillesheim, Kerpen, Niederbettingen, Oberehe, Stroheich, Üxheim, Walsdorf and Zilsdorf,
- from the dissolved community of Lissendorf the communities Basberg, Mirbach, Oberbettingen and Wiesbaum,
- from the dissolved community of Antweiler ( district of Ahrweiler ) the community of Nohn.
The administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde Hillesheim remained the municipality of Hillesheim, which was elevated to a town on October 24, 1993.
Even before the new community was formed, on June 7, 1969, the communities of Loogh and Kerpen were merged to form the new community of Kerpen (Eifel). Simultaneously with the formation of the new community, the communities of Oberehe and Stroheich were merged to form the new community of Oberehe-Stroheich.
Later changes: On March 17, 1974 Bolsdorf and Niederbettingen were incorporated into Hillesheim, Mirbach after Wiesbaum and Zilsdorf after Walsdorf.
On January 1, 2019, the municipalities of Gerolstein , Hillesheim and Obere Kyll merged to form the new municipality of Gerolstein .
