Location of the city of Nettetal in the district of Viersen | ||
The city Nettetal is located on the Lower Rhine in the west of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is a middle district town of Viersen in the administrative district of Dusseldorf .
geography
The city is located in the heart of the Maas-Schwalm-Nette nature park in the immediate vicinity of the Netherlands and comprises six districts that exist as spatially separate settlement areas (localities). (See the section on urban structure .)
The municipality merger Nettetal owes its name to the river Nette , which flows through the city for a length of 12.25 kilometers. Extensive forest and heather areas with a large network of hiking trails make the city a central resort in the Maas-Schwalm-Nette nature park.
Twelve lakes with an area of around 179 hectares belong to Nettetal (compare: Nette lakes , Krickenbecker lakes ). Below are the names of the lakes, broken down according to the rivers from which they are fed (the approximate size in hectares in brackets):
Fed by the Nette
- Little Breyeller See (5.3)
- Great Breyeller See (9.2)
- Net break (13.2)
- Broken Windmill (6)
- Piglet break (4.5)
- Little de Wittsee (4.5)
- Great de Wittsee (22.5)
- Schrolik (15.5)
- Poelvennsee (24.5)
At the race
- Hinsbecker Bruch (37.5)
- Glabbacher Bruch (36.1)
Fed by the Königsbach
- Calf pasture (5)
The region, which is relatively rich in lakes and forests, is a local recreation area for the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation; The two state-recognized resorts, Hinsbeck and Leuth, also contribute to this. Nettetal has the term “lake town” as its claim . There used to be bathing beaches on the Krickenbecker See and on the Poelvenn; these are closed. Since then, the closest possibilities to swim in a lake with lifeguards have been the “Blue Lagoon” near Herongen and the Heidweiher near Amern.
Neighboring communities
Starting in the north in a clockwise direction, the city of Straelen and the municipality of Wachtendonk ( Kleve district ), Grefrath , the city of Viersen , Schwalmtal and Brüggen ( Viersen district ) as well as the municipality of Beesel and the city of Venlo in the Dutch province of Limburg border on Nettetal .
City structure
According to the main statute, Nettetal is divided into six localities called "districts" : "The urban area is divided into the following districts: Breyell, Hinsbeck, Kaldenkirchen, Leuth, Lobberich and Schaag." The two former towns of Kaldenkirchen and Lobberich and the three former communities of Breyell , Hinsbeck and Leuth formed the five original villages. The youngest village Schaag in the extreme south of Nettetal was created in 1995 from part of Breyell. The delimitation of the six districts today was last changed by the city council on February 8, 2011 in the area of the Hinsbeck / Lobberich district boundary.

Coat of arms and banner
As the coats of arms of the communities of origin could not be combined, a new coat of arms was introduced on April 8, 1971. It represents the nature that dominates the region. This is symbolized by a water lily on a blue background (water). In blue a silver (white) water lily with a golden (yellow) clod, surrounded in a circle by five golden (yellow) water lily leaves. The five water lily leaves represent the towns of Kaldenkirchen and Lobberich, which have merged to form the town of Nettetal, as well as the communities of Breyell, Hinsbeck and Leuth.
The city's banner shows the color blue with the city coat of arms without a shield slightly above the center.
Town twinning
Nettetal maintains official partnerships with the French municipality of Caudebec-en-Caux , with the Polish city of Ełk (since 1998) and with the English administrative district of Fenland . Nettetal maintains a "city friendship" with the Saxon city of Rochlitz .
