Jewish Culture Days in the Rhineland is the name of a cross-section event in the region Rhineland at various locations and with different cultural sectors.

1998

A small forerunner took place in 1998 in the Düsseldorf area on the initiative of Paul Spiegel and the head of culture for the city of Düsseldorf, Hans-Heinrich Grosse-Brockhoff .

Jewish Culture Days in the Rhineland 2002

In 2002, the Jewish Culture Days in the Rhineland were held for the first time under the title “ Intermediate tones - Jewish (experience) life ”. From May to mid-June, 14 towns and cities and the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) took part. The partners on the state side were the cities and municipalities: Aachen , Bedburg-Hau with Kleve , Bonn , Duisburg , Düsseldorf , Haan , Cologne , Krefeld , Langenfeld , Leverkusen , Mönchengladbach , Neuss , Nettetal and Ratingen . The regional association of Jewish communities in North Rhine-Westphalia acted as a partner in the project on the Jewish side . The aim of the events was the dialogue between religions, between believers and non-believers, from different cultures and countries. There were around 280 events that illustrated Jewish culture and tradition in exhibitions, lectures, concerts, author readings, theater and dance events and in a series of films.

In order to get to know Jewish everyday culture, there were information events about Jewish rites and customs, about festivals and holidays, as well as synagogue visits and city tours. Kosher dishes were prepared. The Jewish communities also offered discussion forums, music and dance, and topic-related projects for young people.

The Culture Days 2002 were under the patronage of the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany , Paul Spiegel , and the Prime Minister Wolfgang Clement . With the words "These should not be Holocaust memorial days, but happy days on which Jews and non-Jews meet through their culture" , Spiegel characterized the project. Among other things, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia was involved in the financing.

The second culture days took place in spring 2007 under the motto “ new tones - Jewish life ”. The concept focused on contemporary, future-oriented art and culture. The new developments in the Jewish communities in Germany were made accessible to a broad audience, the dialogue between the cultural producers and a Jewish and non-Jewish audience was conducted and it was shown with which astonishing cultural diversity and quality is lived in the communities.

The participating cities of Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf ("Rheinland Arbeitsgemeinschaft") and eight Jewish communities, z. The program included events with the Austrian author Eva Menasse , the Dutch author Arnon Grünberg , the Israeli film director Amos Gitai or the French author Gilles Rozier and Georg Stefan Troller . The president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany Charlotte Knobloch took over the patronage .

The third days of culture took place from March 20 to April 17, 2011 under the motto insights - Jewish life . Westphalian cities and municipalities also took part for the first time. 550 events in 55 cities were held.

Jewish Culture Days in the Rhineland 2015

In 2015, the Jewish Culture Days took place from February 22nd to March 22nd under the motto “ arrived - Jewish life ”. 15 cities, a district, the Rhineland Regional Association and nine Jewish communities took part. More than 360 events in fifteen cities and one district, including the Rhineland Regional Council, were offered. The 2015 Culture Days were under the patronage of the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster , and the Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft .

Jewish Culture Days Rhine-Ruhr 2019

A new concept for the Jewish Culture Days was developed for 2019. Under the motto "Home", over 180 events will be offered in 14 cities from March 28th to April 14th. The Rhein-Ruhr Culture Days 2019 are under the patronage of Prime Minister Armin Laschet and are organized by the State Association of Jewish Communities of North Rhine .
