Hans-Heinrich Grosse-Brockhoff (* 2. October 1949 in Bonn ) is a German cultural politicians of the CDU . From 2005 to 2010 he was State Secretary for Culture at the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Jürgen Rüttgers , and from 2005 to 2006 he was also head of the State Chancellery .

Life

Hans-Heinrich Grosse-Brockhoff was born as the son of the physician Franz Grosse-Brockhoff . After graduating from the Quirinus-Gymnasium in Neuss , he studied law and history and began his professional career in 1979 as a consultant at the city administration of Düsseldorf. From 1981 to 1992 he worked first as head of the cultural office and later as head of the cultural department in Neuss ; He also retained this area of ​​responsibility as Neuss City Director.

In Neuss he made a name for himself with the Insel Hombroich Foundation project , the acquisition of the reconstructed Shakespeare Theater and the establishment of the Alte Post cultural forum; In Neuss, he successfully pursued “niche politics” by creating cultural offers that could stand against the rich cultural offerings of the larger neighboring cities. In 1992 he moved to Düsseldorf, where he was Head of Culture for 13 years.

In recognition of his services to Jewish life, he was awarded the Josef Neuberger Medal on October 6, 2011 by the Düsseldorf Jewish Community.

Grosse-Brockhoff is married to the teacher Annelen Grosse-Brockhoff.

Grosse-Brockhoff is a member of the sponsoring association of the Commission for Contemporary History . and appointed the new President of the Peter Paul Rubens Foundation in Siegen since December 2015 (succeeding the collector and founder of the foundation). Grosse-Brockhoff has been a member of the foundation's board of trustees since 2012. The foundation is the main sponsor of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Siegen.

Activity as State Secretary

On July 1, 2005, Jürgen Rüttgers appointed him head of the State Chancellery and, at the same time, State Secretary for Culture. The relocation of the department to the Prime Minister initially caused a controversy; At the end of Grosse-Brockhoff's term of office, however, the President of the German Cultural Council, Max Fuchs, drew the following conclusion: “Hans-Heinrich Grosse-Brockhoff did a very good job. He brought out everything that could be extracted for culture. ”As State Secretary for Culture, Grosse-Brockhoff advocated setting up a collection and research center on Wolf Vostell and the Fluxus movement in the Morsbroich Museum in Leverkusen .

At the beginning of July 2006, Grosse-Brockhoff was released from his position as head of the state chancellery by Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers. He was replaced by Karsten Beneke , until then State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs and authorized representative of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal government . Grosse-Brockhoff continued to serve as Secretary of State for Culture until the Rüttger government was replaced by the Kraft I government in July 2010.
