Franz-Josef Lersch-Mense

Franz-Josef Lersch-Mense (born August 21, 1952 in Eschweiler ) is a German political official and politician ( SPD ). From October 2015 to June 2017 he was Minister for Federal Affairs, Europe and the Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and from 2010 to 2017 head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia under Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft (also SPD).
Life and work
After graduating from high school in 1972 at the state Einhard-Gymnasium in Aachen , Lersch-Mense studied social sciences and German studies at RWTH Aachen University until 1977 and graduated with the first state examination. He then carried out research as a doctoral scholarship holder until 1978.
From 1978 to 1987 Lersch-Mense was employed in the Federal Chancellery , from 1980 as a consultant. In 1987 he joined the SPD - Bundestag faction . From 1991 to 1995 he worked in the position of head of department in the representation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal government . He then returned to the SPD parliamentary group, where he was responsible for federal-state coordination. In 1998 he became State Secretary in Saarland and subsequently took on other top positions in politics and public administration.
Lersch-Mense is married and has two children.

In 1998 Lersch-Mense was appointed State Secretary and Plenipotentiary of the Saarland to the federal government. After the election defeat of the Klimon government , he left office in 1999 and moved to the SPD party executive. Initially department head, in 2003 he took over the position of federal manager for one year . He then became President of the Defense Division West.
From 2007 Lersch-Mense was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs . After the federal election in 2009 and the SPD's departure from the federal government, he was put into temporary retirement.
In the first half of 2010 he was the managing director of the Brandenburg State Agency for Structure and Labor for a few months. On July 16, 2010, Lersch-Mense was appointed State Secretary and Head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia by Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft . On October 1, 2015, he was appointed Minister for Federal Affairs, Europe and the Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia while retaining the position of Head of the State Chancellery.
