Fritz Kassmann

Fritz Kaßmann (born June 26, 1908 in Lippstadt ; † July 22, 1991 in Tegernsee ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1927, Kaßmann began studying law and political science, which he completed in 1931 with the first state examination and in 1935 with the second state examination. He received his PhD in 1932. Dr. jur. and worked from 1935 to 1946 at the regional court in Dortmund and at the higher regional court in Hamm . In addition, he headed the industrial construction company in Hamm from 1938 to 1945 .

In 1946, Kaßmann was appointed president of the regional labor court in Westphalia-Lippe and in 1949 as a ministerial advisor to the main department head in the labor ministry of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . In addition, since 1955 he has been a regional councilor at the Rhineland Regional Council . In 1959 he became a board member of VEW (Vereinigte Elektrizitätswerke Westfalen AG Dortmund). After retiring from active politics, he worked as a lawyer at Brinkmann & Munde in Soest .

Fritz Kaßmann was married to Rita Freiin von Werthern (1914-2010) from 1937 to 1969 and had three sons. His son Dietrich was the district administrator for the Bergstrasse district from 1985 to 1997.

After the Second World War , Kaßmann joined the SPD.

Kaßmann had been a councilor for the city of Hamm since 1945. He was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament from 1954 to 1966 and from 1970 to 1975 , where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1961/62 and from 1970 to 1975.

Public offices

From 1952 to 1955, Kaßmann was the district and city director in Marl . After a constructive vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Karl Arnold and the formation of a social-liberal coalition, from February 1956 to July 1958 he took over the management of the Ministry for Reconstruction in the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia led by Prime Minister Fritz Steinhoff .

Later Kaßmann was again a member of the government. In December 1966 he was appointed Minister for Federal Affairs in the SPD / FDP government led by Prime Minister Heinz Kühn and on September 18, 1967, he moved to the head of the Ministry of Economics, Medium-Sized Enterprises and Transport . However, he remained Minister for Federal Affairs until November 1, 1968. After the formation of the 2nd Kühn Cabinet from the SPD and FDP , he left the government on July 28, 1970 and was replaced as Minister of Economics by Horst Ludwig Riemer .
