Michael Thomas Breuer (born October 2, 1965 in Brühl ) is President of the Rhenish Savings Banks and Giro Association and German politician ( CDU ). On October 22, 2007, he was unanimously elected to succeed Karlheinz Bentele as President of the Rhenish Savings Bank Association. He took office on January 1, 2008. At the beginning of 2008, he was also elected Chairman of the WestLB Supervisory Board with immediate effect .

Life

Michael Breuer grew up in Erftstadt -Ahrem and now lives with his family in the Lechenich district . In 1985 Breuer passed his Abitur examination in Lechenich. After his military service in Münster and Lüneburg, he began studying economics at the University of Bonn and worked as a tax consultant and auditor . He has been a member of the CDU since 1983. He began his political career in the Junge Union as district and district chairman. From 1999 to 2009 he was chairman of the CDU Rhein-Erft and chairman of the CDU district association Middle Rhine ( Cologne , Bonn , Rhein-Erft-Kreis , Leverkusen , Rhein-Sieg-Kreis ).

Political offices

Michael Breuer was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from June 1, 1995 to December 2, 2007 . His constituency included the cities of Brühl, Erftstadt and Wesseling in the Rhein-Erft district. In the state parliament, Breuer made a name for himself in finance and budget policy. In addition, he was noticed as chairman in the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (PUA) when he brought the then Prime Minister Wolfgang Clement ( SPD ) into an explanation.

During the change of government in North Rhine-Westphalia on June 24, 2005, Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers (CDU) appointed Breuer Minister for Federal and European Affairs . After being elected President of the Savings Banks Association, he resigned from the ministerial office and received his certificate of discharge on October 24, 2007. His successor in the ministerial office was Andreas Krautscheid . He resigned his state parliament mandate on December 1, 2007.

Memberships

Michael Breuer has been a member of the administrative board of DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale and chairman of the support association of the NRW Foundation since January 1, 2008 .

He is also the treasurer of the German War Graves Commission and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SCHUFA Holding AG .
