Gerd Ludwig Lemmer (born September 13, 1925 in Remscheid ; † March 18, 2016 ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Lemmer was a nephew of the later Federal Minister Ernst Lemmer . After graduating from the Lyceum Alpinum in Zuoz ( Switzerland ) in 1945, he began studying law in Göttingen , which he completed in 1950 with the first state examination and in 1954 with the second state examination. He then worked for the district assembly of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Rhineland Regional Council. In 1956 he became a consultant at the Representation of the State of Berlin to the Federal Government and had been head of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Berlin Senate since 1959, most recently in the role of a government director.

Lemmer was an advisor to Fried in 1966/67 . Krupp GmbH and from 1969 to 1983 member of the board of a machine factory in Neuss . From 1983 to 1989 he was a member of the management of Krupp Industrietechnik GmbH and in 1990 became head of the “Special Tasks Sales” division in the company's group management.

Political party

After the Second World War , Lemmer joined the CDU in the Bergisches Land and was CDU district chairman in Remscheid. He was also a member of the regional executive board of the CDU Rhineland and since 1965 deputy chairman of the association.

MP

Lemmer had been a councilor for the city of Remscheid since 1952 and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there from 1954 to 1961. In 1956 he became a member of the Rhineland Regional Assembly and belonged to the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament from July 21, 1958 to May 27, 1975 . From 1979 to 1994 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Public offices

Lemmer was honorary mayor of the city of Remscheid from 1961 to 1963. In July 1962 he was appointed Minister for Federal Affairs in the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia led by Prime Minister Franz Meyers . During his tenure, he worked with the Prime Minister to secure the Ruhr coal mining industry. After the breakup of the CDU / FDP coalition, he held the duties of the state minister for economics, medium-sized businesses and transport for a week until he had to resign in December 1966 because of the constructive vote of no confidence in Meyers.

Lemmer was from December 1, 1967 to October 21, 1969 State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Expellees, Refugees and War Victims . From April to November 1969, he also served as a permanent state secretary in the Federal Ministry for Post and Telecommunications .

Honors

In 1974 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to the Federal Republic of Germany. His hometown Remscheid honored the former mayor by conferring honorary citizenship on October 3, 2008, after the council had unanimously decided on December 13, 2007.
