Otto Georg Hoffmeister (also: Justus Otto Hoffmeister ; * July 17, 1826 in Moers ; † February 10, 1888 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and mayor of the city of Remscheid .

After attending high school in Cologne , Hoffmeister studied law in Bonn and Heidelberg . During his studies he became a member of the Alemannia Bonn fraternity in 1845 and the Arminia Bonn fraternity in 1847 . In 1849 he worked as an auscultator at the Cologne Regional Court and was there from 1855 Regional Court Assessor before he went to Bonn in 1859.

On August 27, 1859, he took up the post of mayor of Remscheid, which he was to hold until May 15, 1876. Since June 27, 1873 he was allowed to hold the title of Lord Mayor and from 1875 to wear the golden chain of office. Due to the rapidly increasing demand for labor, he campaigned for the government to simplify the immigration and settlement conditions for these workers, who often came from the Hessian area. He also tried to counteract the housing shortage by building simple houses. During his term of office in 1872 and 1873 there were strikes by the file cutter , which paralyzed production for 21 weeks in 1873.

On November 20, 1875, he was the second person in the history of the city to be granted honorary citizenship, and Hoffmeisterstrasse in Remscheid- Vieringhausen is named after him. The Hoffmeister Foundation goes back to him.

From 1877 to 1879, as a member of the Prussian House of Representatives, he represented the constituency of Lennep-Solingen (Rhine Province, Düsseldorf 1) for the NLP .
