Beate Wilding (born August 16, 1956 in Remscheid ) is an SPD politician and was Lord Mayor of Remscheid from 2004 to 2014.

She was born as Beate Buchholz. In 1972 she began an apprenticeship as a retail saleswoman. Since 1974 she has been active in various offices in the HBV union . In 1986 she joined the SPD and was elected to the Remscheid City Council in 1994 . In 1998 she was elected deputy chairwoman of the SPD in Remscheid and in 1999 as the second deputy mayor .

In the local elections in autumn 2004 , she ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Remscheid and achieved a result of 50.1% against the incumbent Lord Mayor Fred Schulz in the second ballot . She was re-elected on August 30, 2009 . In November 2013, she announced that she would not fully exercise her term of office, which lasted until 2015, for health reasons and that she would no longer run for the mayor of the city , which was combined with the local elections in May 2014 .

Wilding has been married since 1978 and has one daughter.
