The trade union trade, banks and insurance (HBV) was a union within the German trade union federation (DGB) based in Düsseldorf for employees in retail and wholesale , banks , insurance and other service industries . It was organized in largely independent state and district associations. "Outlook" was the membership magazine.

The union was founded in Königswinter in September 1949 and was initially strongly supported by the DGB. On September 30, 1950, the HBV had 55,221 members, on December 31, 1989 407,326, most recently around 457,000. In 2001 HBV merged with ÖTV , DPG , IG Medien and DAG in the ver.di (United Service Union ) union with initially 2.8 million members.
