Günter Volkmar
Günter Volkmar (born February 28, 1923 in Essen , † February 22, 2006 in Düsseldorf ) was a German trade unionist.
Career
He studied law and economics in Marburg . In June 1949 he became a member of what was then the HBV union , one of the predecessor unions of today's ver.di union . Immediately after joining, he became a full-time trade unionist. First he was union secretary for labor law for the banking and insurance sectors on the main board. In 1955 he was elected to the main executive board of HBV, responsible for the areas of labor law, banking, insurance and tariff policy. In 1976 he became 2nd chairman and then in 1980 chairman of the HBV. He stayed that way until 1988.
In addition to his full-time work at HBV, he was, among other things, a board member of the Hans Böckler Foundation and a member of the DGB federal board. He also campaigned for oppressed trade unionists in South Africa during apartheid .
