August Scholz (politician)

August Scholz (* 1882 , † 29. June 1948 in Remscheid ) was a German local politician of the CDU and from 1946 to 1948 Mayor of the city of Remscheid.

Life

Scholz had a doctorate in dentistry and was not politically active before 1945. After the Second World War he joined the CDU. He was a city councilor in Remscheid and was elected honorary mayor of the city in the first free election in October 1946. On November 4, 1946, he took over the office from his predecessor Gustav Flohr . In 1948 he was unanimously re-elected as Lord Mayor by the city council.

On the morning of June 29, 1948, Scholz committed suicide by throwing himself from the roof of the Remscheid town hall into the inner courtyard. Richard Gierk , who also died in 1948 , then took over the post of mayor .
