Angelica Klara Schwall-Düren born. Düren (born July 16, 1948 in Offenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

From 2002 to 2010 she was deputy chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group. Since July 15, 2010 she has been in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft as Minister for Federal Affairs, Europe and the Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . On June 21, 2012, she was appointed to this office in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft and held this office until October 1, 2015.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1967 in Offenburg, Angelica Schwall-Düren completed a teaching degree in history , political science and French in Freiburg im Breisgau , Montpellier and Münster , which she completed in 1973 with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. She then worked as a research assistant at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1977 she received her doctorate as Dr. phil. at the University of Freiburg with the thesis "Child and Youth Welfare in the Grand Duchy of Baden in the Age of Industrialization - Development and Objectives of State, Communal and Association Welfare 1850–1914". From 1977 to 1994 she worked as a teacher in Ahaus and Gronau . In addition, she trained as a family therapist from 1985 to 1992.

Angelica Schwall-Düren is a widow and has two sons.

Political party

She joined the SPD in 1976 and was a member of the SPD state executive in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1987 to 1996 . From 1990 to 1996 she was also the chairwoman of the working group of social democratic women in the district of Western Westphalia.

MPs

From 1979 to 1994 Angelica Schwall-Düren was a member of the municipal council of her place of residence in Metelen .

From 1994 to 2010 she was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1998 to 2002 she was the parliamentary managing director of the SPD parliamentary group . From October 2002 until her entry into the North Rhine-Westphalian state government on July 15, 2010, she was deputy parliamentary group leader with responsibility for matters relating to the European Union .

Angelica Schwall-Düren has always entered the Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .

As a representative for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, she has been a member of the board of directors of Deutschlandradio since 2014 .

European politics

Schwall-Düren was a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group in the German Bundestag and is committed to a bipartisan European policy. Together with Hans-Ulrich Klose , Eva Högl and Michael Roth , she voted on May 7, 2010 for the rescue package for aid to Greece , while her parliamentary group abstained.

German-Polish relations

From 2000 to 2010 Schwall-Düren was the chairwoman of the board of the German-Polish Society Federal Association, which has around 3000 members .
