Arnold Ferdinand Ewald
Arnold Ferdinand Ewald (* 1815 in Berlin ; † July 24, 1884 there ) was a German painter.
Ewald studied (1839) at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and was a student at the Berlin Academy ; He was also a member of the literary society Tunnel over the Spree under the pseudonym Canaletto .

Quote from Nagler's monogrammist directory :
“(Ewald) was one of the most excellent young artists in the Prussian state. He made his studies in the academy in Berlin and appeared around 1848 (for the first time) with works.
They consist of genre images and representations from the history of the Middle Ages. ...
Excellent paintings of the latter kind are Galileo in front of the congregation set up by Pope Urban VIII in the fire of the defense of his teaching or Queen Elisabeth (I) hands over the death sentence of Maria Stuart to Dawison .
The master's monogram can be found on drawings and smaller genre pictures. So he signs an etched sheet in the 2nd issue of the album of the younger artists' association in Berlin from 1853 18 Æ 53 ) "

Ewald's son was the historian, philologist and lecturer Paul Ewald (1851–1887), who married the painter Clara Philippson the year he died. They were parents of the physicist Paul Peter Ewald .
