Wolfram Ehrhardt Kuschke (* 9. April 1950 in Menden ) is a German politician of the SPD . From 1998 to 2002 he was government president of the administrative district of Arnsberg and from 2002 to 2004 Minister in the Prime Minister's portfolio and from 2004 to 2005 Minister for Federal, European Affairs and Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Kuschke studied modern and middle history as well as political science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 1977 to 1978 Kuschke worked as a freelancer in adult education and from 1979 to 1981 as a pedagogical employee in Bielefeld . From 1981 to 1983 he was employed as a research assistant at the Ruhr University in Bochum , where he worked as a lecturer from 1983 to 1985.

Wolfram Kuschke has been a member of the SPD since 1972. From 1985 to 1993 Kuschke acted as deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district Unna and from 1990 to 1996 as a member of the SPD district executive committee for Western Westphalia . Since 1992 he has been chairman of the SPD city association of Lünen and since 1996 a member of the SPD state executive.

Kuschke was elected for the first time in 1985 for the SPD in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1987 he took over the chairmanship of the “People and Technology” commission. From 1990 to 1998 Kuschke was the social policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group.

In 1998 Wolfram Kuschke was appointed regional president of the Arnsberg district. On November 12, 2002, he was appointed minister in the Prime Minister's portfolio and head of the State Chancellery in the cabinet of Prime Minister Peer Steinbrück . On October 15, 2004, Kuschke changed the department and from then on officiated as Minister for Federal, European Affairs and Media as well as authorized representative of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal government . Kuschke resigned from this office as a result of the state election in June 2005 that was lost by the SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . Since then, Kuschke has taken on his newly won state parliament mandate, which he had received in the aforementioned state election by direct election with 43.5% of the votes in constituency 115 (Unna I) and was able to defend it in 2010. From September 2010 he was chairman of the main and media committee of the state parliament. For the early elections in 2012, Kuschke did not run again and consequently left the NRW state parliament.

Wolfram Kuschke is the patron of the Balver Höhle Festival . He is the state chairman of the European Union of North Rhine-Westphalia and a member of the foundation advisory board of the Europa-Haus Marienberg .
