Karsten Beneke

Karsten Beneke (born December 18, 1958 in Potsdam ) is a German economist and political official . From 2005 to 2010 he was State Secretary in North Rhine-Westphalia .

education

After graduating from high school in Ulm in 1977 and doing military service in 1978, Beneke began studying economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , graduating in 1984 with a degree in economics.

Professional background

Until 1987 he was a research assistant at the Ludwig Maximilians University and then - until 1989 - a consultant in the secretariat of the inquiry commission "Technology Assessment" at the German Bundestag .

From 1990 he worked as a consultant in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research ; In 1995 he became head of department there.

From 1999 to 2001 Beneke was Head of Corporate Development and International Relations, and from 2002 to 2004 Director of Space and Transport at the German Aerospace Center in Cologne-Porz. Until June 2005 he was director of the national space program in the German Space Administration in Bonn.

Public offices

In July 2005, Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers appointed him State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia and appointed him as the state's representative at the federal government .

From July 2006 until the Rüttger government was replaced by the Kraft I government in July 2010, Beneke was head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia .
