Harry Kurt Voigtsberger (born July 10, 1950 in Bad Hindelang ) was Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Building, Housing and Transport for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia from July 15, 2010 to June 21, 2012 . Previously he was director of the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) . In 1970 he became a member of the SPD and was a member of the Aachen City Council from 1979 to 1999 . From 1981 to 2003 he was a member of the political representation of the LVR, the Rhineland Regional Assembly. Voigtsberger lives in Eynatten- Raeren ( Belgium ) near Aachen. He is married and has three children.

education and profession

After graduating from secondary school in 1967, Harry Kurt Voigtsberger began a practical training as a metal aircraft maker at Dornier and Messerschmitt in Augsburg , which he completed in 1969. In 1970 he began studying aircraft construction at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences , which he completed in 1973 with a degree in aircraft construction. After two years with the Bundeswehr, which he left as a reserve officer , Voigtsberger began studying politics, economics and education at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen in 1975 . In 1978 he passed the first state examination in teaching and, after his time as a trainee teacher in Cologne, also the second state examination. After working at the vocational college of the city of Cologne from 1980 to 1993, he was the headmaster of the Georg Simon Ohm vocational college of the city of Cologne until 2003 .

Voigtsberger worked at LVR since 2003. Since then he has held the office of treasurer and building officer as well as the first regional council, which represents the LVR director. In December 2007, the Rhineland Regional Assembly appointed him by the majority as LVR director.

In July 2010, Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft appointed him Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Building, Housing and Transport to her state government. After the state elections in 2012 he was not reappointed and accordingly resigned from the ministerial office in June 2012. He had already announced before the appointment of the new cabinet that he would no longer be available for his office. Voigtsberger was President of the NRW Foundation from September 2012 to October 2017 .

Sport and volunteering

Voigtsberger is a board member of the Research Institute for Inclusion through Exercise and Sport (FiBS eV) at the German Sport University Cologne and Lebenshilfe NRW.
