Ernst Schwanhold

Ernst Schwanhold (* 5. December 1948 in Osnabrück ) is a German politician of the SPD . From February to June 2000 he was Minister for Economy and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Technology and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in Cabinet Clement I and from June 2000 to November 2002 Minister for Economy and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Energy and Transport in Cabinet Clement II .

Life and work

Schwanhold studied chemical process engineering with a degree in engineering . Until 1990 he was an authorized signatory and operations manager in a medium-sized company.

After leaving the ministerial office ( he was not appointed to the Steinbrück cabinet ), he initially worked as a management consultant. From March 2004 to May 2008 he was head of the “Competence Center Environment, Safety and Energy” of the chemical company BASF and took over other BASF projects until he retired on December 31, 2008.

He is a member of the IG BCE , the workers' welfare and various social and cultural associations.

Political party

Schwanhold has been a member of the SPD since 1972 . Among other things, he was SPD chairman in Osnabrück for eight years.

MP

Schwanhold was a member of the Bundestag from 1990 to 2000 . In the elections of 1990 and 1994 he moved into parliament via the state list of the SPD Lower Saxony and in 1998 he won the direct mandate in the constituency of the city of Osnabrück . In the 13th electoral term he was chairman of the study commission "Protection of people and the environment"; From 1995 to 1998 he was economic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group and a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee, and from September 27, 1998 to February 22, 2000 (during the time of the Schröder I cabinet ) one of the seven deputy chairmen of the SPD parliamentary group (list here ).
