Reimut Jochimsen

Reimut Hinrich Hermann Jochimsen (born June 8, 1933 in Niebüll ; † November 25, 1999 in Bonn ) was a German economist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Flensburg in 1953, Reimut Jochimsen studied at the universities of Bonn , Harvard , Bologna and Freiburg . In 1957 Jochimsen received his diploma, and in 1959 he received his doctorate. The habilitation took place in 1964.

From 1957 to 1964 he was a research assistant at the University of Freiburg. In 1959/1961 and 1964 Jochimsen taught as a visiting professor at the Johns Hopkins University Center of Advanced International Studies in Bologna . Since October 1, 1964, he has been a full professor for political economics and director of the seminar for economic policy and structural research at the University of Kiel . From 1968 to 1969 he was dean of the law and political science faculty of the University of Kiel and from 1969 to 1970 rector designatus as a member of the rectorate of the University of Kiel.

From 1970 to 1973 Reimut Jochimsen headed the planning department of the Federal Chancellery under Horst Ehmke . In 1973 he was appointed State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science. In the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia , he took over the Ministry of Science and Research ( Cabinet Rau I ) from 1978 until the state election in 1980 . In 1980 he moved to the Ministry of Economics, Medium-Sized Enterprises and Transport ( Cabinet Rau II ). The competences of this ministry were divided after the state election in 1985 ; in the Rau III cabinet (1985–1990) he was Minister for Economics, Medium-Sized Enterprises and Technology.

From 1980 to 1990 he was also a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, initially via the state list, then directly elected in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis III . From 1990 he was President of the State Central Bank in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In 1997 he was appointed by the Prime Minister to the newly founded Commission for the Determination of Concentration in the Media Sector (KEK) and became its first chairman.

Jochimsen had been married to Margarethe Jochimsen since 1961 , with whom he had a daughter and a son. He died of cancer at the age of 66.

Honors

The Reimut Jochimsen Prize was an award given in honor of and in memory of Reimut Jochimsen from 2002 to 2008.
