Karl Josef Denzer

Karl Josef Denzer (born March 23, 1925 in Trier ; † February 16, 2011 in Bielefeld ) was a social democratic politician and president of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

From 1931 to 1939 Karl Josef Denzer attended elementary school in his home town of Trier. From 1939 to 1942 he completed an administration apprenticeship and became an administrative employee at the AOK Trier. From 1943 until the end of the war he was a soldier and was taken prisoner of war. From 1946 he was active in many different activities outside of his learned profession. It was not until 1955 that he found a job as an administrative clerk at the Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse Bielefeld , which corresponded to his training. After passing the 1st and 2nd administrative examinations, his administrative and social science studies at the Westphalian Administrative Academy in Münster , which he graduated with a diploma in 1966, he became a senior administrative council and until 1975 head of department.

On March 1, 1950, Denzer became a member of the SPD . From 1955 to 1964 he was chairman of the SPD local association Werl- Ape. Between 1956 and 1961 he was on the board of the East Westphalia district of the SPD. From 1968 to 1981 he took over the chairmanship of the SPD sub-district of Bielefeld and was a member of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe district executive . From 1974 to 1979 Denzer was a member of the SPD state committee in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1980 to 1990 he was a member of the SPD party council.

Due to his political commitment, he was a member of the council of Werl-Aspe from 1956 to 1964, and then from 1969 to 1984 a member of the council of Bielefeld. On July 26, 1970, he entered the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia for the first time, a position he held until 1990. He was elected in the state elections in 1970 and 1975 in the constituency of Bielefeld-Stadt II (141 and 142), in the elections in 1980 and 1985 in the constituency of Bielefeld I (105) as a direct candidate for the SPD in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament. In the state parliament he was deputy chairman from 1975 to 1980 and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1980 to 1985 . From May 30, 1985 until his resignation on May 31, 1990, he assumed the role of President of the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to his work as a member of the state parliament, he also took on other tasks, such as from 1980 to 1985 as a member of the supervisory board of Auguste-Viktoria Marl (mining), from 1980 to 1990 as a member of the board of trustees of the August Schmidt Foundation in Bochum and from 1983 to 2001 Chairman of the Heimvolkshochschule Haus Neuland Bielefeld. Denzer was a member of the board of trustees of the Heinz Kühn Foundation . He was also a member of the Public Services, Transportation and Traffic Union .

In 1986 Karl Josef Denzer was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1989 he received the Great Federal Cross of Merit (1981) with a star (1985) and shoulder ribbon.

Karl Josef Denzer was married and had two children.

He died on February 16, 2011 in Bielefeld.
