Heinz Kühn Foundation
The Heinz Kühn Foundation is a foundation under private law based in Düsseldorf . The foundation is administered by the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia according to the instructions of the board. The former Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft ( SPD ) has been the chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees since July 2010 .
The foundation was established in 1982 by Johannes Rau as a foundation under private law that exclusively and directly pursues charitable purposes. It is named after the SPD politician Heinz Kühn , who was Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1966 to 1978. The Heinz Kühn Foundation finances its scholarships from the income generated by the foundation's assets. The foundation capital raised by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for the establishment amounted to 500,000 DM.
Goal setting
The foundation has two main focuses: on the one hand, promoting talented young journalists from NRW in the form of foreign scholarships , and on the other hand, awarding scholarships in NRW to young foreign journalists. The publication of yearbooks since 1985 documents the result of the up to three months funded stays abroad as well as the four-month domestic scholarships, which are mainly awarded to applicants from third world countries . From the 1996 yearbook, these experience reports can also be accessed online as PDF files on the HKS homepage . The basic idea of solidarity is also expressed in the organization's slogan - Experience one world with the Heinz Kühn Foundation . Many of the scholarship holders from earlier years are now well-known print and television journalists.
The Board of Trustees
The decision on the award of these scholarships is made by a board of trustees , which is chaired by the respective minister-president of North Rhine-Westphalia , after prior examination of the applications . After May 22, 2005 , the then Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers took over the chairmanship of the Foundation's Board of Trustees; Since July 2010, Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft has been chairwoman of the board of trustees and the board of directors.
