State elections in North Rhine-Westphalia

The results of the elections to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since 1947 are listed here. The state governments of North Rhine-Westphalia can be found at: State government of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The electoral period of the Landtag elected in 1947 was set by law to be 3 years. The constitution of 1950 initially provided for a four-year parliamentary term. A constitutional amendment in 1969 extended the electoral term to five years. The state parliament can dissolve itself with a majority of its members. He made use of this option for the first time in 2012.
