The state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1962 took place on July 8, 1962. The deputies were elected for the 5th electoral term of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The CDU lost the absolute majority it had won in 1958. The SPD gained significantly, the FDP lost slightly. The CDU and FDP agreed on a coalition. In the constituent session of the Landtag on July 23, Franz Meyers was re-elected Prime Minister with 109 votes, while Heinz Kühn, the SPD parliamentary group leader, accounted for 87 . Three days later the 7 CDU and 2 FDP ministers were sworn in.
