Partula arguta is an extinct species of snail in the genus Partula . It was endemic to Huahine in the Society Islands .
description
Partula arguta reached a length of 13 mm. The case diameter was 8.1 mm and the length of the muzzle 7.7 mm. The case was deeply perforated, short, egg-shaped, extremely thin, fragile and horny. The color was pale sandy and incompletely translucent. The surface was quite shiny and marked with weak growth lines and with microscopically incised spiral lines, which were faintly recognizable on the last turn but narrow and pronounced on the spindle. The spindle was very short and conical in shape. There were four turns, the last of which was evenly arched and spherical. The mouth was slightly slanted, oval in outline and took up half the length of the case. The edge of the mouth (peristome) was thin and widened throughout. The outer lip was evenly curved. The basal margin was more curved. The spindle edge was bent back and widened. The spindle was right-wound above.
die out
In 1994, the rosy wolf snail ( Euglandina rosea ) introduced in French Polynesia in 1974 reached Huahine , causing Partula arguta to become extinct in the wild. As part of the conservation breeding program for Partula snails launched by the Zoological Society of London in 1987 , specimens of Partula arguta were brought to the London Zoo, the last of which was received in 1995.
