Life

The Römer, born in Herne, has lived in Castrop-Rauxel since 1952 . He graduated from elementary school in 1961. In the same year Römer began training as an administrative officer and also worked as a journalist . From 1965 to 1968 Norbert Römer attended a commercial vocational school and a higher business school. In the years 1969 to 1970 he did the basic military service and was then a contract soldier . From 1971 to 1972 Römer worked in the private insurance industry and from 1973 to 1974 as a freelancer and volunteer in a newspaper editorial office.

From 1974 to 2006, Römer worked for the IGBE union , which was merged into the IGBCE in 1997. Until 1995 he worked there in the editorial and press department, where he rose to press spokesman and editor-in-chief. From 1996 Römer was employed as a trade union secretary .

Norbert Römer is married and has one child.

Political party

In 1968 Norbert Römer joined the SPD . At the municipal level, he held various posts in local associations, working groups and sub-districts . From 1990 to 2002 he was chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalian working group for employee issues in the SPD.

From 2002 to 2018, Römer was chairman of the Western Westphalia region, one of the four district associations of the North Rhine-Westphalian SPD . In 2004 he was elected treasurer of the regional association.

Offices and mandates

In the administrative district of Arnsberg , Römer was employee representative on the district planning council from 1999 to 2006 and later on the regional council .

In the 2005 state election , Römer ran for the Soest I state constituency ; there he was defeated by the CDU politician Eckhard Uhlenberg . Likewise, he did not get the direct mandate in 2005 and again in 2010 and so he moved into the state parliament via the reserve list . From September 2006 he was deputy chairman of his group there; After the previous chairwoman Hannelore Kraft changed to the post of Prime Minister in July 2010, Norbert Römer was elected chairman of the parliamentary group.

In the state elections in 2012 , Römer was in second place on the state list. However, since the SPD achieved 23 overhang seats with 99 electoral districts won and Römer was unable to win his constituency again, Römer initially failed to re-enter the state parliament. This succeeded before it was constituted, as the MP Karl-Heinz Krems , who had won his constituency directly, was appointed as State Secretary in the state government Kraft I and has given up his state parliament mandate. Thus, Römer was the first available substitute to take his place in the state parliament.
