Marc Herter (born June 6, 1974 in Hagen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2010 , deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and deputy state chairman of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia .

education and profession

After graduating from Beisenkamp-Gymnasium in Hamm in 1993 and completing community service, Marc Herter began studying law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . After passing the university part, Herter finished his studies in 2008 before the first state examination. Until he was elected to the state parliament, he was employed for two years at a chemical company in the northern Ruhr area, where he said he was responsible for land development and marketing.

Marc Herter has been a member of the SPD since 1991. In 1993 he was elected chairman of the Jusos in the HammSPD. After several positions in the association, from 2000 to 2004, as the first chairman of the newly founded state association of North Rhine-Westphalia, he merged the former four districts into the largest state organization in Germany. He has been a member of the state executive board of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia since 2001, since 2006 also in the presidium of the NRW SPD , since 2010 as deputy chairman.

Herter was a member of the city council of Hamm from 1994 to 2014. From 2001 to 2011 as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In the council period 2004-2009 he was a. a Chairman of the Committee for Urban Development and Transport and the Supervisory Board of Stadtwerke Hamm GmbH and represented the city of Hamm in the regional council of the Arnsberg district government. In addition to financial and budgetary policy, his work focuses on urban development and economic development.

Herter was a member of the board of the Democratic Left 21 forum, the union of the left party in the SPD.

In the state election in 2010 he was first elected to the state legislature, he won the direct mandate in constituency Hamm I . In the state elections in 2012 and 2017 , he again won the direct mandate in his constituency.

From 2011 to 2018, Herter was the parliamentary director of his group. In April 2018, he narrowly defeated Thomas Kutschaty in a fight for the chairmanship of the parliamentary group . In June 2018 he was finally elected deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament.

Social offices

Marc Herter was active in the Protestant youth group before his political career. From 1994 to 1999 he was chairman of the youth center council Südstrasse in Hamm.

He is a member of IG BCE, the Falken and the Social Association Germany, BUND, the Friends of Nature and attac. Since 2018 he has also been chairman of the AWO district association Hamm and deputy chairman of the AWO sub-district Ruhr-Lippe-Ems. He also holds three mandates in supervisory bodies of public companies. He is chairman of the supervisory board of SWH, a member of the parliamentary advisory board of NRW.BANK AöR and chairman of the supervisory board of the development agency Heinrich Robert GmbH. In addition, Herter is a member of the advisory board of the master's degree in “Public Service Management” at the University of Leipzig, of the board of trustees of the Evangelical Perthes Foundation and a member of the board of trustees of the Clemens Theodor Perthes Foundation. In addition to the political organizations, he also supports the Rhynern Heimatverein as a member and, as a senator, the Grün-Weiß Hamm carnival society and the Hammer Narrenzunft.
