Barbara Steffens (born January 24, 1962 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). She was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2000 to 2013 and again in 2017 and 2018 . From 15 July 2010 to 30 June 2017 officiated Steffens as Minister of Health, Equalities, Care and Aging of North Rhine-Westphalia ( cabinet power I , Cabinet Kraft II ). She then moved to Techniker Krankenkasse on July 1, 2018, as head of the state representation in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Life

education

After graduating from high school in 1981, Barbara Steffens began studying art history , politics , African studies and Romance studies in Trier and Cologne, which she broke off to become a biological-technical assistant . She successfully completed her training in 1987. She then began studying chemistry in Cologne and at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, which she also completed without a degree.

Steffens has been a member of the Greens since 1989 and is a member of the district association in Mülheim an der Ruhr . From 1992 to 1994 Steffens was political director of the state association of the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia, and from 1994 to 2000 spokeswoman for the state board. Career opportunities for women

In an interview (August 2010) Steffens said she wanted to fight for higher fees for resident doctors in North Rhine-Westphalia and to strengthen the protection of non-smokers. She also calls for a quota of women on the supervisory boards of listed companies, as women are still disadvantaged when filling senior positions, but would be better able to cope with problems such as the global financial crisis from 2007 onwards :
