The waiting period ( Latin carere , "to renounce") is a waiting period or blocking period in various specialist areas .

In the insurance sector , the waiting period is the period in which there is insurance but no insurance benefits have yet been granted.

In banking , the waiting period or waiting period describes the time between the last loan disbursement and the start of the repayment phase . There is also a waiting period for the confirmed letter of credit .

In agriculture , an officially set waiting period must be observed between the application of pesticides and the administration of veterinary medicinal products and the utilization of the products.

Organizations such as Lobbycontrol and Transparency International Germany are demanding waiting periods when switching between politics and business for politicians and government officials who resign from their offices and want to apply the knowledge and contacts they have acquired in the free economy, especially for activities that can be attributed to lobbying .

In the history of the empire , the waiting period was a requirement for migrant workers . It stipulated that foreign workers had to return to their country of origin for a certain period of time each year. This should prevent permanent settlements for the workforce. The Prussian government introduced this measure primarily with a view to workers from Polish Russia or Austrian Galicia. These worked in agriculture. Anti-Semitic and cultural-racist reasons are given as motives.

Austria

In Austria , the waiting period corresponds (in the parlance to leave condensed) designated on Germany parental leave , the dormant employment relationship of parents for the care of children after birth (following the maternity leave ). The parent on parental leave has numerous protective regulations under labor law ( protection against dismissal and the like). The part-time -Karenz in connection with part-time work is possible. The associated parental leave allowance , which was restricted to employees until 2000, was replaced by the childcare allowance in the first term of Wolfgang Schüssel's government . With this change in the law, the group of beneficiaries was extended to all mothers (including self-employed , farmers and students ) and extended to 3 years. Also a paternity leave has been made possible.
