Juliane Seifert

Juliane Seifert (born January 16, 1978 in Kiel ) is a German historian and has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth since March 2018 .

Life

education and profession

Seifert was born on January 16, 1978 in Kiel. In 1997 she passed her A- levels at the Christian-Ernestinum high school in Bayreuth . Seifert studied modern and contemporary history , ancient history and political science at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 1997 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2004 she continued her studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which she completed with a Magistra Artium . From 2002 to 2003 she studied modern and contemporary history and political science at the Italian University of Florence as part of the Erasmus program .

In 2005 she worked as a freelancer for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Sarajevo . From 2005 to 2006 Seifert was the office manager of the Social Democratic MP Katja Mast in the German Bundestag . From 2006 to 2011 she worked for the Federal Government Commissioner for the New States in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (2006–2009) and in the Federal Ministry of the Interior (2009–2011) as a consultant in the department “Labor, Social Affairs, Skilled Workers” active.

From 2007 to 2008 Seifert studied at the École nationale d'administration , the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the University of Potsdam and completed her studies with the Franco-German " Master of European Governance and Administration".

From 2011 to 2013 Seifert was head of department for labor, social affairs, health and demography in the representation of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate at the federal level . From 2013 to 2016 she headed the “Political Planning and Social Analysis” department in the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate .

On April 24, 2016, at the suggestion of SPD general secretary Katarina Barley , she was elected federal manager of the party by the SPD party executive. She took up this post in mid-May 2016.

At the end of October 2017, Seifert resigned from her position as federal manager after the SPD party chairman Martin Schulz had held talks about a new appointment without her knowledge.

In March 2018 she was appointed State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth .

Seifert lives in Berlin .

Engagement in politics and society

From 1998 to 1999 Seifert was the deputy chairwoman of the General Student Committee of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. From 1999 to 2002 she was also a member of the federal board of the Juso university groups . For this Seifert was also from 2001 to 2002 advisory member in the party executive committee of the SPD. From 2000 to 2002 she was a member of the board of trustees of the Science Forum of Social Democracy .

From 2008 to 2009 she worked as an associate in the “Generation Society D” project group of the New Responsibility Foundation . From 2011 to 2012 in the 2011/2012 winter semester at the University of Potsdam, she held a teaching position at the Chair of Political Science, Administration and Organization of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

During her time in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Chancellery, Seifert was considered the “right-hand man” of Prime Minister Malu Dreyer . She is assigned a key role in the surprisingly successful election campaign of the state SPD with Dreyer as the top candidate in the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2016 . She was supposed to bring this campaign experience to bear in the 2017 federal election in order to have the SPD, which was weak in the polls at the time of her election, come off successfully. Seifert is considered to be well connected in Berlin.
