Katja Mast (born February 4, 1971 in Offenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2005 . Mast was Secretary General of the SPD Baden-Württemberg from 2011 to 2016 and chairwoman of the SPD state group Baden-Württemberg in the Bundestag from 2014 to 2018. Since December 2017 she has been the deputy group leader for labor, social affairs, family, senior citizens, women and youth.

Life

After high school in 1990 at Wirtschaftsgymnasium Offenburg Katja Mast graduated to 1992 training as a bank clerk at the Sparkasse Offenburg . She then studied biology , political science , geography and education at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1999 she passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools .

From 1999 to 2003 Katja Mast worked as a project manager in the consulting firm Institut für Organizationkommunikation GmbH . From 2003 to 2005 she was an assistant to the personnel director of Deutsche Bahn AG .

politics

After she had been involved in the SPD since 1990 , Katja Mast joined the party in 1993. From 1993 to 1996 she was a member of the Juso state board in Baden-Württemberg. She was u. a. Juso chairwoman in Offenburg and deputy state chairwoman of the Jusos Baden-Württemberg. In 1992, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2017 she was a member of the Federal Assembly , she also held delegate mandates at SPD party congresses, was a long-time member of the application commission of the SPD Baden-Württemberg and deputy district chairwoman of the SPD in the Enzkreis .

Katja Mast was elected to the Bundestag for the first time in October 2005. Since then, she has represented the constituency of Pforzheim , which includes Pforzheim as well as the Enz district, where she moved in via the state list. From 2005 to 2013 she acted as deputy spokesperson for the SPD state group in Baden-Württemberg, and from 2009 also as deputy spokesperson for labor and social affairs in her parliamentary group. In October 2011, she was elected General Secretary at the SPD Baden-Württemberg's state party conference. In the 2013 federal election , she and Gernot Erler formed the top tandem of the SPD in Baden-Württemberg and then moved up from 2014 to 2018 as head of the 16-member state group in the successor to Christian Lange and as spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group for labor and social affairs.

For the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2016 , Mast took over the election campaign management for the SPD state association as general secretary. After the heavy losses for the SPD in the state elections, she did not run again as Secretary General; her successor was Luisa Boos. After the 2017 federal election , Mast became deputy parliamentary group leader for the areas of labor and social affairs as well as family, senior citizens, women and youth. In addition, she was elected to the Bundestag's mediation committee in March 2018 as a representative of the SPD parliamentary group. She is also a deputy member of the budget committee.

From June 6, 2018, she was a member of the Federal Government's “Reliable Generational Contract” pension commission. In March 2020, the Pension Commission finished its work and presented a report.
