Martin Gorholt (born August 18, 1956 in Hamm ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was authorized representative of the state of Brandenburg at the federal government, state secretary in the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture as well as in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in Brandenburg and previously Federal Managing Director of the SPD. From June 2018 to November 2019 he was head of the State Chancellery of Brandenburg.

Life

After graduating from high school in Hammonense in 1975 , Martin Gorholt studied economics and social sciences at the University of Dortmund from 1976 , where he was chairman of the General Student Committee (AStA). He completed his studies in 1983 with a degree in economics . He is married and has three children.

Political party

Gorholt joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1975 and was involved with the Jusos in Hamm, among other things as chairman.

From 1984 to 1988 he was the federal managing director at the head of the Juso university groups . He worked with Kajo Wasserhövel on the federal executive committee (university working group). Afterwards he was entrusted with the student work of the Jusos until 1990 as a consultant at the Juso Federal Secretariat.

From 1990 to 1994 he was state manager of the SPD in Brandenburg .

In 2005 he was appointed Federal Managing Director of the SPD by the SPD General Secretary, succeeding Kajo Wasserhövel. In September 2008, he was replaced by his predecessor.

Martin Gorholt was chairman of the SPD sub-district Havelland from 2011 to January 18, 2020 .

Public offices

Martin Gorholt headed the office of the Brandenburg State Minister Steffen Reiche from 1994 to 2003 (until 1999 in the Ministry of Science, then in the Ministry of Education). At the same time he was its press spokesman .

From 2003 to 2005 he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sport in Brandenburg.

In 2009 he ran for the Brandenburg state parliament in the constituency of Ostprignitz-Ruppin III / Havelland III (constituency 4) and won a mandate in the Brandenburg state parliament through the SPD state list.

In November 2009 he became State Secretary in the Ministry for Science, Research and Culture in Brandenburg. Since state secretaries are not allowed to hold a mandate, he resigned his state parliament mandate. He was succeeded by Barbara Hackenschmidt .

In January 2016, Gorholt was nominated as an SPD candidate for the district election in the Havelland district , which he was unable to win. From August 2016 to June 2018 he was the representative of the state of Brandenburg at the federal government.

From June 12, 2018 to November 20, 2019 he was head of the State Chancellery of Brandenburg.
