Albrecht Gerber

Albrecht Gerber (born April 2, 1967 in Preetz , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2009 to 2014 he was head of the Brandenburg State Chancellery and from 2014 to 2018 Minister of Economics and Energy for the State of Brandenburg.

Life

After graduating from high school in Iserlohn in 1987 , Gerber studied political science at the University of Bonn and the Free University of Berlin . From 1990 to 1991, Gerber was press spokesman for the SPD state parliamentary group in Brandenburg and the SPD state association. From 1991 to 1993 he worked for Britta Stark, member of the state parliament, and from 1993 to 1994, he was a consultant in the state chancellery. Then, from 1994 to 1997, Gerber worked as a personal advisor to the then Secretary of State for the Environment, Rainer Speer . From 1997 to 1998 Gerber worked at the SPD campaign headquarters in Kampa , and from 1998–1999 returned to the State Chancellery as a consultant. From 1999 to 2006, he was the office manager of Prime Ministers Manfred Stolpe and Matthias Platzeck . From 2006 to 2009 Gerber was head of the government planning and coordination department in the State Chancellery. From 2009 to 2014 he was State Secretary and Head of the State Chancellery of Brandenburg.

From November 5, 2014, Gerber was Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy in the Woidke II cabinet of the Brandenburg state government. On August 21, 2018, Gerber announced his resignation for family reasons on September 19, 2018. His successor was Jörg Steinbach , previously President of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg .
