Jochen Hild

Jochen Hild (born July 31, 1929 in Kaldenkirchen ; † January 6, 2017 in Brüggen ) was a German biologist and landscape ecologist .

Life

Jochen Hild grew up in Kaldenkirchen in the Lower Rhine region , where his father Dr. med. Hans Hild had a doctor's practice and attended the Stiftisch-Humanistische Gymnasium in Mönchengladbach. After the war he studied biology, chemistry, physics, meteorology and geology at the University of Cologne from 1951 ; In 1956 he received his doctorate on the subject of "Investigations into the vegetation in the nature reserve of the Krickenbeck lakes". After working in Kempen, Krefeld, Remagen, Cologne, Wahn and Traben-Trarbach, he later lived in Brüggen . Hild was temporarily active as a nature conservationist (deputy district representative for nature conservation in the Düsseldorf administrative region), was a scientific assistant at the Botanical Garden and Institute of the University of Cologne , where he worked on his habilitation thesis, guest lecturer at the University of Nijmegen and the TH Aachen , lecturer for landscape ecology and applied science Ecology at the Ruhr University Bochum and worked as a forest ecology consultant on a development aid project for the German forestry sector for the People's Republic of China. He also worked on a Deutsche Lufthansa development program for third world countries with the problem of airport ecology and flight safety.

Hild was particularly concerned with the special problem of bird strikes in air traffic . In this way, flight safety can be increased significantly through the ecological design of the environment (biotope management) . Hild was chairman for many years and from 2002 honorary chairman of the German Committee for the Prevention of Bird Strikes in Air Traffic . He was the editor of the journal Vogel und Luftverkehr, which has been published twice a year since 1981, and created biotope reports on the safety of airfields, some of which were controversial . For example, together with Chr. Sindern, 1998 the “Expertise for the assessment of the potential bird strike risk in the area of the Berlin-Schönefeld Airport ” as well as the report for the expansion of the Frankfurt / Main Airport . Hild wrote specialist books and published in specialist journals, e.g. B. in Hydrologia , Vogel und Luftverkehr and reports of the German Botanical Society
