The traffic safety in the air , and aviation safety , including the theory examination and classification of air accidents and their prevention through safety regulations, inspections, training of personnel ( pilots , air traffic controllers , aircraft mechanics, etc.) and its training.

One aspect of aviation safety is aviation security ; it deals with the defense against external dangers in air traffic. External dangers include: B. Aircraft hijackings , acts of sabotage and other attacks or interventions.

Aviation security is not to be confused with air traffic control . This serves to safely direct traffic in the airspace (special police function).

Measures to increase flight safety

The following activities identify the risk of accidents and, if possible, eliminate or at least reduce them:

One measure to increase the security of the flight area is to prevent the entry of airlines classified as unsafe. For this purpose, black lists are kept in the EU , which are bundled and published as a black list of the EU Commission for air carriers against which an operating ban has been issued in the EU . The access restrictions and security checks at the airport are among the measures taken by the airport security that indirectly also affect flight safety.

Responsibilities

For flight safety of civil aviation in the EU , founded in 2003, European Aviation Safety Agency (European Aviation Safety Agency, EASA) in Cologne is responsible (to Brussels here since 2004).

In Germany , the Federal Aviation Office (LBA) and the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) in Braunschweig are responsible for flight safety .

Aviation Safety in military operations of the army which is aviation Office of the Bundeswehr in charge.

In Austria , the highest civil aviation authority is located in the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK).

The Federal Autonomous Safety Investigation Center - Civil Aviation Division is subordinate to the BMVIT.

Further work Austro Control GmbH , the Austrian Aero-Club (ÖAeC) and authorities of the state governments with.
