Location of Herongen in North Rhine-Westphalia

Herongen is a town in the town of Straelen in the Kleve district in the northwest of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The border with the Netherlands is 2.5 km to the west.

Herongen - first mentioned on March 17, 899 - has 2757 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2004) and is located on the federal motorway 40 ( Venlo - Ruhr area ), which runs south.

The Fietsallee on the North Canal , an approximately 100 km long cycle path on the North Canal in the Dutch-German border region, runs through Herongen.

On July 1, 1969, Herongen was incorporated into the city of Straelen.

The coat of arms shows in red a right-facing, circular two-legged silver (white) snake ( Ouroboros ). She bites her own backside and holds a golden (yellow) paw cross in the middle in her claws . The coat of arms is derived from the legend of St. Amandus ; this is the patron saint of the place.

  • The Landgard eG , the largest distributor of ornamental plants ( potted plants , cut flowers ), vegetables and fruits, as well as gardeners and florists' supplies in Germany, has its headquarters in Herongen.
  • VERSEIDAG-INDUTEX GmbH, Herongen weaving mill, which is a subsidiary of VERSEIDAG-INDUTEX GmbH, Germany. The Herongen weaving mill looks back on decades of tradition. VERSEIDAG product range: Coating + Composite for high-quality industrial textiles / fabrics.   • Herongen is one of six production sites of the company Carl Kühne KG , a food manufacturer that mainly produces vinegar , delicatessen and fine acids and is one of the largest producers of vinegar, cucumber and mustard in Europe.
