Metalium was a heavy metal band from Hamburg that was active in the 2000s .

history

The band was founded in August 1998 by Lars Ratz (electric bass and producer). The first line-up included Lars Ratz, Matthias Lange (guitar), Henning Basse (vocals), Chris Caffery (guitar) and Mike Terrana (drums). Metalium's debut CD "Millennium Metal - Chapter One" immediately hit the German Media Control Top 100 Charts and marked the most successful heavy metal debut of 1999 across Europe.

On the first four albums released, the band tells an ongoing story about the heroes Metalian and Metaliana . In this way, every album is a concept album and a chapter (Chapter) is history. On later albums are devoted to realistic themes.

The band around bassist and producer Lars Ratz has stood out for 13 years primarily through their consistency. The international press wrote "Where it says Metalium, Metalium is inside". “Captain” Lars Ratz doesn't care about fashion trends and always directs his ship in the musical waters, where he sees the strengths of the band and thus earns worldwide praise from the international press for their uncompromising constancy. After a few line-up changes during the first two productions, the line-up stabilized from the third production, "Hero Nation - Chapter Three". With the new entry Michael Ehré on the drums, Metalium not only finds an extremely solid drummer, but also a competent songwriter who harmoniously complements Lars Ratz's songwriting style for over ten years until the band split up in 2011.

Metalium had fan clubs (called "Metalian Forces") in 19 countries and toured live in Europe and Japan.

The band repeatedly worked on the albums for individual songs with well-known guest musicians, who were mostly Lars Ratz's heroes of his youth. So you can hear Ken Hensley (ex- Uriah Heep ) and Don Airey ( Deep Purple , ex- Whitesnake and ex- Ozzy Osbourne ) on the keyboards . As a duet partner in “Infinite Love”, Henning Basse was joined by the 4-octave voice of the German musical great Carolin Fortenbacher and Lars Ratz's old companion Jutta Weinhold from the Velvet Viper times together takes hold of the second Metalium production in 2000 for the microphone.

On September 13, 2010, the band announced the dissolution on their homepage and finally thanked their fans for their 13 years of loyalty.

Lars Ratz, who now lives on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca , founded the band Rockaloca with the Metalium guitarist Tolo Grimalt and the Argentine singer Alejandra Burgos, which was played in Fyre! was renamed.

Michael Ehré founded the band Love Might Kill and also joined the metal band " Gamma Ray " in 2012 as a permanent member.
