The Carl Kühne KG is a German food company , which mainly vinegars and gourmet produce. As one of the largest vinegar, cucumber and mustard producers in Europe, the family company sells its products in over 50 countries. In addition to the range for the end consumer, Kühne also supplies system catering and the food industry. Two thirds of sales are generated in Germany and one third abroad.

history

  • 1722: Johann Daniel Epinius founds a vinegar brewery in Berlin .
  • 1761: The widow Epinius sells the company to the Kühne family, namely Friedrich Wilhelm Kühne .
  • 1795: Construction of a larger vinegar factory in the "Alte Jacobstraße" in Berlin-Kreuzberg , production site for the next 40 years.
  • 1832: Carl Ernst Wilhelm Kühne takes over the business and is the first to introduce Schützenbach's fast vinegar manufacturing process in Bildnern. The company gets its current name.
  • 1835: Kühne builds a new, much larger factory in Berlin's "Neue Grünstraße".
  • 1867: Carl Kühne takes over the company.
  • 1876: Kaiser Wilhelm I appoints Kühne purveyor to the court.
  • 1888: Wilhelm Kühne succeeds his father. New factories are being built in Hamburg and on the coast, near the fish processing industry.
  • 1896: Kühne decides to include mustard in the production program. A new production facility goes into operation in Belle-Alliance-Strasse (today Mehringdamm ) in Berlin .
  • 1902: Kühne introduces mayonnaise as a finished product on the German market based on the English model .
  • 1903: The production of pickled cucumbers begins.
  • 1905: Kühne adds sauerkraut to its production program. Kühne sells vinegar in bottles under the “Surol” brand, creating one of the first branded products in Germany.
  • 1939: The company now has 20 branches, mainly in the north, west and east of Germany.
  • 1945: After the end of the war , almost all of the factories are badly damaged or destroyed. The Hamburg branch will be the company's new headquarters. The first production is restarted.
  • 1949: Kühne builds new businesses all over Germany.
  • 1949 The old Berlin operations are replaced by a new building in Reinickendorf . This is where the company later also produces vinegar and mustard ketchup and grill sauces.
  • 1949: Kühne sets up a company in Straelen-Herongen.
  • 1957: Kühne is the first manufacturer to bring ready-to-eat red cabbage , one of the first convenience products , to the German market.
  • 1995: The vinegar factory in the Hamburg plant burns down completely. A year later, Kühne begins building a new vinegar factory in Hagenow ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).
  • 2008: Kühne opens a warehouse in Straelen-Herongen .
  • 2015: Launch of the sub-brand ENJOY. Product launch of ENJOY salad dressings and vegetable chips.
  • 2016: Launch of the sub-brand MADE FOR MEAT.
  • 2018: Launch of the Enjoy crispy peas
