history

The oldest surviving document, in which Lobberich is mentioned, was made around the year 988. With her, Archbishop Everger of Cologne transferred, among other things, the Church of Lubbruch to Bishop Notker of Liège.

The Lobberich textile industry began in 1802 with the Heithausen velvet ribbon factory. In 1880 the first fully mechanical loom was put into operation near Niedieck ; it provided a great competitive advantage. Between 1970 and 1975, Niedieck employed over 1000 people. In 1868 the Kempen – Venlo line was opened. During the Second World War , an anti-aircraft division of the Luftwaffe was stationed in the municipality . On March 2, 1945 Lobberich was occupied by troops of the 8th US Armored Division after artillery bombardment in the course of Operation Grenade .

Just six years after the town charter was granted in 1964, the new town of Nettetal was formed on January 1, 1970 as part of the municipal reorganization from the towns of Lobberich and Kaldenkirchen and the towns of Breyell , Hinsbeck and Leuth .

After the Second World War, the metal industry gained importance through the production of sanitary fittings and carburettors at ' Rokal Armaturen GmbH'. Rokal also produced model trains in TT gauge (12 mm) and was later taken over by Pierburg , a supplier to the automotive industry. Pierburg gave up its Lobberich location in 2014/15 and moved to Neuss (→ Rheinmetall Automotive ).

In mid-May 2011, the Dutch company Laarakkers bought the site of the former Niedieck velvet weaving mill, which became insolvent in 2004. Laarakkers had the Niedieck building torn down and built apartments, small-scale commercial space and buildings for service companies there.
