Urbanus Bomm

Urbanus Bomm OSB (born June 28, 1901 in Lobberich (Lower Rhine) as Johannes Bomm ; † October 2, 1982 in Andernach ) was a German Benedictine , abbot of Maria Laach Abbey and chorale scholar .

Life

Johannes Bomm joined the Maria Laach Abbey in the Eifel in 1921 and was given the religious name Urbanus. In 1964 he was elected Abbot Coadjutor of Abbot Basilius Ebel and, after his resignation, was ruling Abbot of Maria Laach from 1966 to 1977 . Urbanus Bomm participated in liturgical studies the Abbey as part of the liturgical movement , through which the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council was initiated.

Significant was the Latin-German Volksmeßbuch, which he published for the first time in 1927 in the Benziger publishing house - the complete Roman missal for every day of the year, with explanations and a chorale appendix , called “the Bomm” for short, echoing the “Schott” , the missal by Anselm Schott .
