Hans Klaps (born May 14, 1936 in Lobberich ; † March 18, 2015 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1990 to 1995 and from 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament . Klaps lived in Brüggen .

After attending primary school, he trained as a velvet weaver and then worked for 31 years, initially at the Niedieck-Werke, then at Girmes GmbH in Lobberich and Grefrath . From 1968 he was a member of the works council of Girmes GmbH, including from 1984 until his retirement in 1999 as works council chairman. In addition, he had been a member of the company's supervisory board as an employee representative since 1977.

Since 1951, Klaps was a member of the Textile Clothing Union (GTB); In 1994 he was elected to their main board. After the unions were merged, he joined IG Metall in 1998 . In 1969 he joined the SPD. Since 1975 he was a member of the district council of Viersen . From 1977 he belonged to the district association of the SPD working group for employee issues, from 1991 as its deputy state chairman. In 1990, Klaps was elected for the first time as a direct candidate for the Viersen II constituency in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament, to which he was a member until 1995. There he was active in the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Nature Conservation, in the Committee on Budgetary Control and in the Committee on People and Technology . In 1998 he moved back into the state parliament as a successor and was a member of it until 2000.

Award

In 1995, Klaps received the plaque of honor of the Viersen district for his twenty years of membership in the district council. He was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1998.
