Heinrich Gillis Görtz

Heinrich Gillis Görtz (born June 30, 1940 in Nettetal-Lobberich ; † September 11, 2010 in Nettetal-Lobberich) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Live and act

Heinrich Gillis Görtz completed an apprenticeship as a designer for textile printing from 1955 and then worked in this profession. He attended evening courses at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld . In 1960/1961 he studied for two semesters at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Ferdinand Macketanz , Gerhard Hoehme and Karl Otto Götz . 1961/1962 he studied free graphics at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld with Rolf Sackenheim and from 1962 painting and free graphics again at the Art Academy Düsseldorf with Joseph Fassbender .

In 1964 his first works were shown in exhibitions in Krefeld and Düsseldorf . In 1965 he received a scholarship from the Ernst Poensgen Foundation in Düsseldorf. He dealt with cerebral structures and studied at the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf . On a trip to Morocco he studied Islamic art .

In 1966 he opened a studio in Düsseldorf and became a lecturer in drawing at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld. 1966/1967 he was a master student of Joseph Fassbender at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. From 1969 he created his etching portfolio Zerebral . In 1974 he was appointed professor at the design department at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld and moved to Krefeld in 1976.

In 1980 Heinrich Gillis Görtz began working on his Baarlo cycle , which he expanded to include a total of 27 partly multi-part sheets and large-format lithographs by 1992 . In 1985 he traveled to the Soviet Union with Axel Vater and Ingo Ronkholz and again in 1988 with Ingo Ronkholz. In 1987 he set up a studio and a workshop in Nettetal-Lobberich, where he also lived. In 1990 Heinrich Gillis Görtz fell ill and was released from his official duties at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld. In 1992 he retired . He continued to devote himself to artistic work. In 2003 he made the cover picture and an art supplement for the annual publication Muschelhaufen .

Heinrich Gillis Görtz was a member of the West German Artists Association from 1998 and of the German Artists Association from 2001 . From 1983 he was married to the painter and draftsman Katrin Berger.
