West German Artists Association
The West German Artists Association is an association of painters , graphic artists , sculptors , photographers and media artists in North Rhine-Westphalia. The office is located in the Museum Bochum .
history
The association has existed since 1946 as a free association of North Rhine-Westphalian artists and was founded in Hagen with its headquarters in the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum , where it also had its office until 1993. It was founded under the sign of reconstruction after the end of the Second World War , after National Socialist rule, which had ostracized modern visual arts and dissolved artists' associations. The constituent assembly took place in the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum in Hagen. Its director at the time, Herta Hesse, and the artists Wilhelm Wessel and Eberhard Viegener played a decisive role in founding the WKB.
The exhibitions of the members and guest artists, shown every two years, took place in Hagen. The city of Hagen awarded the renowned Karl Ernst Osthaus Prize from these exhibitions . From 1991 onwards, the West German Artists Association has shown its main exhibitions every two to three years in different cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. There are also smaller, specific themed exhibitions. Since 1996 the seat and office of the West German Artists Association has been located in the Kunstmuseum Bochum.
The association has 220 members who are directly or indirectly related to North Rhine-Westphalia. Ekkehard Neumann (1st Chairman), Jochem Ahmann, Hanns Armborst, Danuta Karsten, Thomas Klegin, Renate Löbbecke, Willy Otremba, Rona Rangsch and Elly Valk-Verheyen work on the current board . The managing director is Sepp Hiekisch-Picard, Kunstmuseum Bochum . (As of May 2015)
