Matthias Schamp

Matthias Schamp (* 1964 in Bochum ) is a German artist and author.

Schamp grew up in Krefeld and studied art history and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1983 to 1990 . During his studies he had guest and performance appearances at various theaters. Since then he has worked as an author and artist. From 1991 to 1996 he edited NON (+) ULTRA, the magazine for syntactic confusion . Since 1993 he has received several awards and grants , including a grant in the artist village of Schöppingen in 1998 and a transfer grant from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2006. In 2003 he received a lectureship at the Bauhaus University Weimar for art in public spaces and new artistic strategies.

His works have been shown in numerous solo exhibitions since the early 1990s, including in 1994 at the Kunstverein Böblingen , 1995 at the Hagenbucher in Heilbronn , 2000 at the Dortmunder Kunstverein , 2002 at the Stuttgarter Kunstverein and 2007 at the Kunstverein Arnsberg . His series of works, Schlechte Verstecke , began in 1998 and was published monthly from 2001 to 2004 in Titanic magazine . a. exhibited in the Folkwang Museum in Essen.

In 2010, Schamp and Claudia Schmacke show waterways in the exhibition series liquid area in the Flottmann-Hallen in Herne.

In 2011 he initiated the Situative Brachland Museum in Bochum together with Steffen Schlichter .
