Klaus Küster (* 1941 in Remscheid - Lennep ) is a German graphic artist , painter and photographer .

Life

After training as a technician, Küster attended the École des Beaux-Arts Paris and the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal (today Bergische Universität Wuppertal ). He then worked as a graphic designer and photographer in various advertising agencies until 1969. In 1969 he became a freelance graphic artist, painter, photographer and set designer. His best-known example of graphic work is Amnesty International's "chain" logo .

At the beginning of the 1970s he developed the method of luminoplastic relief, in which a partially plastic photo or a plastic photogram is created by mechanical processing of the image carrier (photo paper, film) before the photographic exposure .

In 1995 Klaus Küster founded his own school for design and the ART & RAT gallery in Remscheid. As a member of the art advisory board of the city of Remscheid, he initiated the city's "Collection Gerd Arntz ". In 1996 Küster was appointed to the German Werkbund . Also in 1996, Klaus Küster was appointed to the West German Artists Association . In 1998 he became a member of the “gfg group for design” led by Rolf Glasmeier . From 1998 to 2007 he directed the gallery of the city of Remscheid. From 2006 Klaus Küster had a gallery collaboration with Knut Wolfgang Maron : Zone E (Essen) and Zone B (Berlin). From 2008 Küster taught the typography seminar at the Wilhelm Wagenfeld School , Bremen. From 2015 to 2016 he ran the "Central Galerie" in Remscheid. 2019 was the 50th anniversary of his "Atelier in Ewaldstrasse" in Remscheid.
