The Wilhelm Wagenfeld School in Bremen-Huchting is a school for design . It comprises the departments of vocational school , vocational high school and a technical college . It is named after the Bremen-born Bauhaus student Wilhelm Wagenfeld , whose name also stands for the program and goals of the school.

Basic idea

Within the school there are different approaches with regard to their basic orientation. While the model represents the school externally, the internal approach was always anchored in Walter Gropius' manifesto to combine architecture as a total work of art with the other arts. Gropius calls on the disciplines to first develop their craftsmanship: “Architects, sculptors, painters, we all have to go back to the craft! [...] The artist is an enhancement of the craftsman. ”It is this basic idea that should be the design guideline of the lessons in the workshops of the school. From a pedagogical point of view, the Wilhelm Wagenfeld School is guided by self-organized and responsible teaching methods.

Facilities

Workshop: painting

The school has computer laboratories and workshops that were introduced based on the training at the State Bauhaus. In the workshops, subjects such as screen printing, photography, book design, painting, animation, video or print graphics are offered. The computer labs are z. Partly connected with the workshops (e.g. video, animation, book design) or part of other teaching offers such as multimedia or part of the training area for media designers.

Departments

Distribution of students by department:

  • Vocational school for design approx. 700 students
  • Technical college for design (FOS) approx. 390 students
  • Vocational high school for design and multimedia (BGy) approx. 200 students

Each department works in several teams that coordinate the teaching and educational work from school entry of the pupils to their graduation.

Vocational high school

The vocational high school for design and multimedia leads to the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). The vocational high school offers preparation for courses and professional training in the areas of design and multimedia. Lessons are mainly organized in class. Interdisciplinary forms of learning are part of the lessons.

Technical college

The Fachoberschule (FOS) is a two-year educational program and leads to the advanced technical college entrance qualification. The application requires a secondary school leaving certificate. A year-long run through the school also requires completed vocational training. Project management as an integral part of schooling relies on self-organized and responsible forms of learning.

The focus of the school encompasses all types of visual design, whether analog on paper or digital on the screen, with the camera, as free composition or as applied graphics for visual messages. Everything thing-like and material-related, whether as free plastic in clay or metal or as a functional product, e.g. B. as a residential design or textile object, belongs to what is designed at the school.

professional school

The vocational school in the Wilhelm Wagenfeld School trains in the dual system (training company / school) in the following specialist areas:
