János Lukács

János Lukács (born January 29, 1935 in Püspökszenterzsébet , Baranya County ) is a former Hungarian politician of the Party of Hungarian Working People MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) and finally the Hungarian Socialist Workers Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) , who was among other things Central Committee Secretary . On May 22, 1988 he was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until April 12, 1989.

Life

Lukács, who came from a working-class family, worked as a bricklayer after finishing school and between 1950 and 1954 he worked for the state-owned construction company Komlói Állami Építőipari Vállalat . During this time he joined the party of the Hungarian working people MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) in 1953 and in 1954 became secretary of the Union of Young Workers DISZ (Dolgozó Ifjúság Szövetsége) in this state company. In 1957 he became secretary of the KISZ (Magyar Kommunista Ifjúsági Szövetség) , the youth association of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) in the city of Komló, which emerged from the MDP .

Thereafter Lukács was first secretary and then first secretary of the KISZ in Baranya County between 1961 and 1964 and was also a member of the Executive Committee of the KISZ. During this time he completed studies at the Komsomol University in Moscow and the party university of the MSZMP and after graduating in 1972 became secretary for party organization and administration of the MSZMP city leadership of Pécs . He then acted between 1975 and March 8, 1980 as the first secretary of the MSZMP city administration of Pécs, the fifth largest city in Hungary.

Subsequently, Lukács took over on March 8, 1980 the function of first secretary of the MSZMP in Baranya County and held this until July 1, 1987. On March 27, 1980 he was during the XII. Party Congress member of the working group for the construction industry and on the following XIII. Party congress on March 18, 1985 elected member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the MSZMP.

At a central committee plenum on June 23, 1987 he was elected Central Committee secretary for party organization and as such was also chairman of the working group for youth and party. On May 22, 1988 he was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until April 12, 1989. At another ZK plenum in December 1988 he was chairman of the Commission for Personnel Policy and the Political Commission. At a plenary meeting of the Central Committee on April 12, 1989, he lost his membership in the Politburo and in June 1989 also his position as Central Committee Secretary for Organization and his seat in the Central Committee of the MSZMP.
